Waghorne Workplace Design was set up to meet the individual needs of clients who are looking to move, upgrade, refurbish their current office, or to simply make an improvement to their office interior.
Waghorne Workplace Design was set up in 2016. Steve Waghorne, the founder and Design Director, identified a gap within the workplace design market.
With 35 years of design experience he brought with him a wide variety of interior design, and marketing skillsets having worked with many top London design agencies. Having previously set up Waghorne Interior Designers in 2008, as a freelancer, he wanted to streamline his business and focus on what he enjoyed most – office interior design. Steve wanted his new business to offer a flexible approach to design allowing his clients to commission as much or as little of his services as their budget allowed. He wanted to tailor his service to the clients requirements, whilst at the same time switching them on to the best in British and European furniture design, materials and products. Steve’s business model differs from most workplace design companies as they are only interested in projects that incorporate the design and build element, furniture and materials specification.
His idea was to offer a fee paying consultancy service where his clients could just pay for the design plans only, leaving them to tender and choose their preferred fit-out contractor, but could also offer additional support service if required. He designs mainly to the company’s budget, marketing and operational objectives taking into account the type of clients they engage and do business with.
Market positioning and the budget is key as this affects the choice of whether it’s top end, mid-range or budget furniture to use in the project but should reflect the look and feel of that particular company’s culture and sector and needs to be selected carefully so it doesn’t clash with the company values.
He also did not want to be tied up to a particular fit-out company. His designs can be tendered out to the client’s preferred refurbishment company for competitive pricing. Of course, if required, he’s happy to provide an all in one service and has his own preferred fit-out and refurbishment company geographically positioned to ensure the best customer service is deployed.
